RV Storage Tips for Napa Valley Visitors
Storing Your RV in Napa County
Napa Valley is one of California's most popular destinations for RV travelers. Wine country, beautiful scenery, and easy access to Lake Berryessa make it a perfect base for RV adventures. But when you're not using your rig, you need a safe, secure place to store it.
Here are our top tips for RV storage in the Napa area.
Before You Store
Clean Inside and Out
Give your RV a thorough cleaning before storage. Wash the exterior, vacuum the interior, and wipe down all surfaces. Most importantly, remove all food — even canned goods. Food attracts rodents, ants, and other pests that can cause serious damage.
Drain All Tanks
Empty your fresh water, gray water, and black water tanks. Stagnant water breeds bacteria and can freeze in cold weather. If storing through winter, add RV antifreeze to the plumbing system.
Handle the Battery
A dead battery is the most common problem RV owners face after storage. Disconnect the battery or use a solar trickle charger to maintain charge. Our facility has excellent sun exposure, making solar chargers very effective.
Protect Your Tires
Check tire pressure before storing — underinflated tires can develop flat spots. If storing for more than a month, consider tire covers to protect against UV damage. The California sun is tough on rubber.
Close Up Tight
Close all windows, vents, and openings to keep out moisture and pests. However, consider leaving a roof vent slightly cracked with a vent cover to allow air circulation and prevent moisture buildup.
Choosing the Right Storage
At Berryessa Pines, we offer two great options for RV owners:
- Outdoor Storage ($95/month) — 10x20 spaces perfect for travel trailers and smaller RVs
- Large RV Spots ($150/month) — 12x30 spaces with wide lanes, ideal for Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels
Both options include 24/7 gated access with a personal gate code, security cameras, and month-to-month flexibility.
Why Store Near Lake Berryessa?
If you enjoy camping at Lake Berryessa, storing your RV nearby saves hours of towing. Our facility on Berryessa Knoxville Road puts you minutes from the lake's campgrounds. Hook up Friday evening and be at your campsite before dark.
Monthly Maintenance Checks
Even in storage, check on your RV monthly:
- Verify tire pressure
- Check battery charge level
- Look for signs of pests (droppings, nesting material)
- Check for any leaks or water intrusion
- Start the engine and run the generator briefly
